About JENSEN LAW

Criminal Defence at the Centre of Our Practice.

A Longstanding Criminal Defence Firm

Jensen Law is a criminal defence firm with deep roots in the Interior and a practice that extends across British Columbia, Western Canada, and the Territories. Our lawyers represent clients at every level of court and handle matters ranging from driving-related and quasi-criminal offences to the most serious indictable charges, including homicide.

Our work is shaped by the understanding that no two cases are the same. Each matter brings its own facts, pressures, and consequences, and each requires a response suited to the circumstances at hand. Some cases are best resolved through careful negotiation with Crown counsel. Others require a full trial and a firm, disciplined defence from the outset.

A Collaborative Approach to Serious Work

Jensen Law operates as a collaborative firm. Our lawyers work together, exchange perspective, and draw on decades of criminal litigation experience in the handling of difficult matters. That structure gives clients the benefit of more than one point of view and strengthens the work that goes into each file.

Trial work remains a central part of our practice. We approach every file with careful preparation and with a clear understanding that it may ultimately have to be argued in court. Members of our team have appeared before the British Columbia Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada, and our experience at trial continues to shape the way we assess, prepare, and defend our cases.

A Legacy That Still Informs the Practice

Jensen Law traces its history back to the early 1900s, when Jeremy Jensen’s great-grandfather began practising law in the Interior. Over time, that foundation developed into a firm known for serious criminal defence work and for representation grounded in preparation, judgment, and a willingness to carry difficult matters through to their proper conclusion.

A significant part of that history is tied to Peter Jensen, whose legal career spanned forty-five years from 1966 to 2011. His practice extended well beyond the Interior and beyond British Columbia, and he represented clients across much of Canada in matters that were often complex, high stakes, and closely watched. He became particularly well known for his work in drug offences and impaired driving matters, and he was among the early criminal defence lawyers in British Columbia to challenge legislation and government action through the lens of the Charter following its enactment in 1982.

That legacy remains meaningful, not simply because of the names attached to it, but because it helped shape the standards by which the firm continues to work. Jensen Law still approaches its cases with the same emphasis on careful preparation, strong courtroom advocacy, and a clear sense of responsibility to the people it represents. The history of the firm is not treated as a point of nostalgia. It remains part of the discipline, perspective, and seriousness that continue to define the practice today.
